New Zealand
New Zealand has one Youth Drug Court located in Christchurch and a derivative of the model called an Intensive Monitoring Group in the Youth Court in Auckland. the small population ( 4 million) has led to the promotion of a mainstreaming approach - allowing Judges in any court to employ the problem solving approach of Drug Courts in general courts.
The Institute of Judicial Studies is active in educating Judges on Therapeutic Jurisprudence and providing the knowledge and skills to Judges who want to employ this approach. The development of Family Violence Courts in New Zealand relies on the same principles upon which Drug Courts are based.
